Make your workday healthier!

1. Stand up before your desk!
2. Work out then go out
- people always wear "oh well, I'll work out later" attitude. but at the end of the day, you get so tired from work, feel like doing nothing but sit in front of the couch. So work out in the morning, then go out for work! It is same for the weekend!
3. Work out at your desk
- believe or not, there are so many work out moves that you can do in front of the office!
check this out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKCPcRcJmqc&feature=player_embedded
4. Resist the urge to phone, email, or tweet your co-workers.
- talk to them face to face and work around the office instead of using your smartphone and other devises!
5. Put your credit card away!
- there are always temptation for fast foods! leave your wallet/credit card so that you don't feel tempted to buy anything unhealthy!
Hint: change your chair so that you don't sit in the awkward posture, less tense on your shoulder!

Deadly Apple

Have you own an iphone/ipod? I you do, you may want to reconsider what are the cost behind them.
No, I am not talking about bucks you have to pay for it but millions of factory worker's health that affected by production of iphones. According to PBS, there are several sweatshops have poor labour regulation or do not have it at all. Apple company in China is one of them. Workers are constantly exposed to chemical toxic for long hours which ultimately causes dizziness and paralysis.
On January 2010, Wintek corporation workers went on strike. Although any form of protests are prohibited by the givernment, million of workers got together and protested their demand to get proper regulation and compensations for those who already developed diseases.

Even though it is a problem in China, we are also responsible since we do consume those cheap goods from China. So, if you are considering buying iphone 4 for a replacement for your old phone, think again.

Healthier choice healthier you

Did you know a pack of cigarette a day would cost you a $3,276 a year? Or did you know a big mac a day could take $1,800 a year from your wallet?
Fascinating facts about purchasing behavior is that it is closely tied with our daily lives. perhaps saving your money could contributes to healthier life. For instance, by skip buying a case of beer per week could save you $1,440 a year and decide to walk instead f using car could save up to $1,615 per year!

While it is easy to estimate the number you could save, actually saving the money can be very challenging. For instance, how can you get to work without the car if you work far from home? Sure, if you can give a daily Starbucks latte, you could save $960, but don't you believe you deserve a cap of Starbuck a day if you work hard?

Individual behavior is hard to manage. Even one knows how to build a healthier behavior if one cannot actually afford to do it, it would be useless... But is that the government or health sector's responsibility to protect individual?
The government brought up implementing 'fat tax' for every purchase that considered as unhealthy, but what about people's autonomy?
After all, it is individual's own body that we are talking about.

Autistic Boy rejected from School

This morning CBC news broadcasted news about Autistic boy Hunter Patterson, who was rejected from three elementary school teachers because he was violent and disturbing classes. His father says that he is not causing much problem surrounding home environment but when it comes to education, he can get upset.

I believe that unless parents are willing to give the boy education, many will reject him. Perhaps home schooling would be another opportunity for Hunter..

Human Rights For Trees

Today, National Post broad casted Bolivia's demand to bring Human Rights for Trees, bees, and other creatures to the UN protocol. Just human have rights to live freely without threat of life, Bolivia government claims that trees, bees and animals should have those rights.. However it seems that this claim have several errors.

First, Bolivia is rich in natural resources therefore they might applicable to such 'rights' to be recognized, but does this apply to other countries?
Second, there might be political interest as this proposal was established when Morales - Latin America's first indigenous president in Bolivia, were trying to win his election. Since Bolivia is consisted of many indigenous population, this claim seems to be simply a performance to favour indigenous population, not an actual action that further steps will be taken in near future...
Third, even the UN were to implement this policy, how do they enforce this right?

Since Bolivia's environment is tightly correlate with Bolivian resident's health status and exploitation of their community will be violation of the human rights. But will this rights really necessary? Do you think this draft will be passed in neat future?
